SALT LAKE CITY (May 16, 2024) — The Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation (DOR) announced funding for 130 projects aimed at enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the state.
The division will award more than $15 million in Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant (UORG) funds to 100 infrastructure projects and nearly $3.2 million in Off-Highway Vehicle (OHVR) grants to 30 projects. This year, every county in Utah will receive and benefit from these grant funds.
“This year, we are thrilled to highlight the broad impact of our division’s grants programs, which have supported more than 130 diverse projects across Utah, with a strong focus on rural Utah,” said Jason Curry, director of the DOR. “By funding projects in every corner of the state, we continue to uphold our commitment to enhancing recreational access and enriching the quality of life for all Utahns.”
The OHVR grants focus on improving OHV trails, increasing user access, promoting safety, and enhancing the overall OHV experience for Utah residents and visitors. Meanwhile, UORG funds support a variety of outdoor recreation projects such as recreation amenities, trail maintenance, and accessibility efforts.
This year’s grant funding will help restore nearly 800 miles of existing multi-use trails and construct nearly 150 miles of new multi-use trails throughout the state. These efforts are expected to significantly benefit local economies and bolster Utah’s status as a premier destination for outdoor activities.
“These initiatives not only promote economic growth and community engagement but also ensure the sustainable use of our invaluable outdoor spaces,” said Curry. “We are thankful for the continuous support from our state leaders, the grant committees, and our partners in the outdoor recreation industry.”
Since its inception in 2015, UORG has contributed over $65 million to 589 projects to build or restore outdoor recreation infrastructure across Utah. The OHVR Grant, initiated in 2020, has now funded more than $16 million to 300 projects to enhance OHV facilities and trails.
