High Desert Trail
Connecting Western Utah's Scenic Landscapes
Welcome to the High Desert Trail, Western Utah's outdoor adventure corridor! Spanning over 600 miles, this motorized trail links some of the state’s most breathtaking desert and mountain landscapes, weaving through diverse terrains, from red rock canyons to lush alpine forests. Whether you’re an off-highway vehicle enthusiast, mountain biker, hiker, or equestrian, the High Desert Trail offers something for everyone.
About the High Desert Trail
The High Desert Trail is a collaborative initiative between state agencies, local governments, federal land managers and trail user groups. Our goal is to create a well-maintained, sustainable trail network that enhances recreation, allows for sustainable tourism and supports the economies of the communities along the route.
The trail connects counties across Western Utah, including Box Elder, Tooele, Juab, Millard, Beaver, Iron and Washington. Each section highlights the unique landscapes, history and culture of these regions.
The vision for the trail started more than 20 years ago and we are excited to be close to formal recognition by our federal land management partners. While the trail is all on existing roads that are open to the public, we are going through a formal designation process to help us improve signage, maintenance and staging areas along the route to improve the user experience, while protecting sensitive natural and cultural resources.
