Frequently Asked Questions

What can be expected from the new North Wash boat ramp improvement project?

The boat ramp improvement project is designed to provide primitive, 4WD-only access to the water’s edge. The ramp improvement incorporates concrete-block articulating mats to enhance traction and durability. However, due to the extremely steep grade, four-wheel drive vehicles are required to safely use the ramp and to help preserve its condition over time.

Will I need specialized equipment to get my boat out of the water

The ramp is designed for 4WD vehicles only and is approximately 16 feet wide, accommodating one party at a time. In most cases, specialized equipment such as roller tubes should not be necessary. However, equipment needs may vary depending on water levels and individual vessel and trailering setups. Users should assess their own equipment and capabilities before use.

Will Bullfrog Marina be accessible this season?

The marina is moving to Halls Crossing temporarily and will be available at that location this summer. See Changing Lake Levels - Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (U.S. National Park Service) and Glen Canyon National Recreation Areas’ latest press release (see 3/18/2026 press release).

The ramps at Bullfrog will be inaccessible by around 3520’ water elevation. The park is reviewing the area to determine if there is another location to have a primitive access/takeout at Bullfrog.

Can I launch boats at the improved North Wash area

No — This access is a benched surface near the water's edge and does not extend into the water at current levels. Even after improvements, this is not an A TYPICAL ‘RAMP.’
